## Community Highlight - Refugee Development Center

Since September 2015, The Rathbun Agency has selected a different non profit each month as part of Quotes for a Cause. We partner with local organizations that are giving back right in our own community. At the end of each month, we present that month’s organization with a check for $1,000.

In May, we are partnering with the [Refugee Development Center](http://refugeedevelopmentcenter.org/) (RDC), a locally active non-profit organization created in 2002 based on the principles of welcome, compassion, inclusion and education. The RDC is a grassroots organization which offers learning opportunities to refugees and newcomers in the community looking to attain self-sufficiency and in need of:

- Education assistance
- Access to crisis intervention
- Physical and mental wellness programs
- Assistance with personal needs such as food and clothing
- Community outreach programs
- Life skills and personal development

The RDC is a vital link between newcomers and the private, public and faith-based communities of Ingham County and the Greater Lansing Area. It is believed that there are an estimated 25 million refugees on average worldwide. Sadly, less than 1% will have the opportunity to be resettled. While most refugees are partnered with an agency who have a time limit on their services, the RDC’s relationship with newcomers will last a lifetime. The Rathbun Agency is proud to be a supporter of the Refugee Development Center!
