## CEO Ben Rathbun Becomes Principal for a Day at Sheridan Road STEM Magnet School

- Posted on Thursday, November 21, 2024

At Rathbun Insurance, _Being There Matters Most_ is more than just our vision statement—it’s how we live, work, and serve our community. CEO Ben Rathbun recently took this philosophy to heart by swapping his CEO hat for a principal’s badge at [Sheridan Road STEM Magnet School](https://www.lansingschools.net/sheridanroad/) as part of the [Ingham ISD Principal for a Day program](https://www.inghamisd.org/thelatest/events/principal-for-a-day/).

The day offered Ben an up-close look at the challenges and rewards of leading a school. With guidance from Principal Dom Lacolla, Ben spent time engaging with students, observing classroom activities, and learning about the innovative ways Sheridan Road supports young minds. His takeaway?

"Leading a school is no easy task. But it’s incredibly rewarding. Big shoutout to Principal Dom Lacolla for showing me the ropes today 🙌🏼," said Ben.

This experience reinforced our belief that showing up for the kids in our community is one of the most important investments we can make. Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders, and we all share a responsibility in shaping their success.

### Why participate in Principal for a Day?

1. Gain firsthand knowledge of the strengths and challenges local schools face daily.
2. Create a stronger connection between educators and business, civic and community stakeholders.
3. Provides an opportunity to gain a better understanding of how education policy impacts practice.
4. Provides an authentic look at their daily responsibilities leading learning communities.

At Rathbun Insurance, we strive to support our local schools and youth programs because we know their impact extends far beyond the classroom. Events like Principal for a Day allow us to not only learn from inspiring educators but also connect with the next generation in meaningful ways.

Ben also had a message for his fellow business leaders: “To my fellow business leaders: Get more involved with students. The next generation is so worth it.”

We’re proud to champion opportunities that help our community grow and thrive. Thank you, Sheridan Road STEM Magnet School and Principal Dom Lacolla, for allowing us to be a part of your day. Let’s continue to work together to build a brighter future for our kids!
