## Stay Alert: Deer Season is Here in Michigan

- Posted on Wednesday, September 17, 2025

Fall in Michigan brings crisp mornings, colorful leaves, and unfortunately, a spike in deer-related auto accidents. Did you know that deer claims in Michigan increase drastically during the fall months? With deer more active—especially at dawn and dusk—drivers need to be extra cautious on the road.

At Rathbun Insurance, we want to help you stay safe and prepared this season.

## Tips to Help You Avoid a Deer Collision

- **Stay alert during peak hours:** Deer are most active between **5–8 a.m.** and **6–9 p.m.**

- **Watch for groups:** If you see one deer, more are usually nearby.

- **Use high beams when possible:** This can help you spot deer eyes reflecting in the dark.

- **Don’t swerve:** It may feel instinctive, but swerving can cause you to lose control or veer into oncoming traffic.

## What to Do If You Hit a Deer

Even with precautions, accidents happen. If you do hit a deer:

1. **Pull over safely** and turn on your hazard lights.

2. **Stay away from the animal.** An injured deer can be unpredictable.

3. **Call the police.** They will document the accident, which is important for your insurance claim.

4. **Take photos of the scene** if it’s safe to do so.

5. **Contact Rathbun Insurance.** We’ll guide you through the claims process and help make sure your coverage works for you.

## We’re Here for You

Collisions with deer can be stressful, but you don’t have to navigate the aftermath alone. Our team is here to answer your questions and support you through the claims process.

Drive safely this season, and remember— **Being There Matters Most.**
