Rathbun Insurance’s Ben Rathbun, Laura Stoken, and Ricardo Morales had the privilege of attending Michigan State University’s Summer Business Institute (SBI) Family Reunion Picnic. The event capped off a week-long program designed to support the transition of incoming first-year students into both Michigan State University and the Eli Broad College of Business.
We were honored to join the students for their final evening on campus—sharing a meal, enjoying great conversations, and engaging in some low-impact networking. In this relaxed setting, students had the chance to chat with us about their goals and expectations for the college experience ahead, as well as get a taste of what networking in the Broad College might look like for them over the next four years. The energy, optimism, and camaraderie they displayed were both inspiring and infectious.
A special thank you goes to Ed Tillett and Marquis Taylor for inviting us to participate as a business partner. This event held even more meaning for us because our very own Ricardo Morales, who joined Rathbun Insurance in June, is a proud MSU graduate and an alum of the Summer Business Institute program. It was a full-circle moment to see Ricardo return—not as a participant, but as a professional giving back to the same program that helped his own college journey.
Throughout the week, these students faced challenges designed to push them outside their comfort zones. Each one rose to the occasion—listening actively, collaborating thoughtfully, and problem-solving creatively. The SBI program simply would not be possible without the dedication of its many corporate partners and representatives who take the time to connect with students and student leaders. A beautiful collaborative and intentional investment in the next generation of business leaders.
SBI’s success also depends on the many campus partners, corporate sponsors, and alumni who generously share their time, insights, and resources. Their support helps ensure not only the ongoing success of SBI, but also the vitality of the Broad Multicultural Business Programs as a whole.
At Rathbun Insurance, we believe in “Being There” for our community—and we’re proud to stand alongside Michigan State University in helping future Spartans step confidently into their next chapter.
