Last week, Rathbun Insurance President Laura Stoken joined a handful of local businesses at the Wilson Talent Center in Mason for a Mock Job Fair — a hands-on, half-day experience designed to help students strengthen their career readiness skills.
The event brought together students from Manicuring & Culinary Arts, New Media, and Cosmetology, giving them the chance to participate in mock interviews and receive real-time feedback on their résumés and cover letters. Each class had 30 minutes in the room, and Laura met one-on-one with three students per class — roughly ten minutes with each student as they shared their materials, asked questions, and learned how to refine their professional presentation.
And she had a blast.
Engaging with students who are eager, talented, and building their confidence reminds us exactly why community involvement matters. These small moments of encouragement and guidance can make a big difference as young people prepare for future careers.
At Rathbun Insurance, we believe it’s our responsibility to invest in the next generation. Building a strong talent pipeline starts with showing up — not just when students are ready to enter the workforce, but while they’re still learning, exploring, and discovering their potential.
Opportunities like the Mock Job Fair allow us to:
-
Offer meaningful, real-world feedback
-
Support students who are taking their first steps into adulthood
-
Demonstrate that local businesses are invested in their success
-
Strengthen community connections through hands-on engagement
When we show up for students, we’re investing in a stronger, more resilient community for all of us. The skills they gain today contribute to the future workforce, local economy, and overall vibrancy of the Greater Lansing region.
Rathbun Insurance is proud to partner with schools and organizations that prioritize experiential learning — and we look forward to many more opportunities to help young people grow, thrive, and pursue their dreams.
Being There Matters Most. And that includes being there for the students who will shape our community’s future.
