November 20th marked National Children’s Grief Awareness Day, a reminder that far too many young people face the unimaginable loss of someone they love. At Rathbun Insurance, supporting these children has been part of our heart and our mission for longer than we can remember—and Ele’s Place – Capital Region has been at the center of that commitment.
Our relationship with Ele’s Place runs deep. CEO Ben Rathbun has spent seven years facilitating weekly support groups for pre-K children, an experience he often describes as his most meaningful volunteer work of all time. Since 2020, he has also served on the Ele’s Place Community Board and was recently selected as Vice Chair—a role he is honored to hold.
He isn’t alone in giving his time. Denise Oridway, one of our dedicated Account Managers, has been facilitating support groups for years as well. She often returns from group nights saying the experience “filled my cup,” a sentiment shared by so many who spend time inside Ele’s Place. It truly is a special, healing space.
Ele’s Place – Capital Region is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that no child in Michigan grieves alone. They serve grieving children, teens, young adults, and their families across Mid-Michigan. Peer support groups are held Monday through Thursday during the school year, and family nights take place monthly throughout the summer. Ele’s Place also partners with local schools to provide Ele’s Groups onsite, reaching even more students where they are.
This is an organization that brings light into the darkest moments—and we are honored to stand alongside them.
If you feel moved to support their mission or want to learn more about how Ele’s Place serves our community, please reach out to (517) 482-1315. Together, we can help ensure every child has a safe place to heal, connect, and find hope again.
