At Rathbun Insurance, our vision of Being There Matters Most goes far beyond insurance policies—it’s about showing up for our community in meaningful ways. Earlier this year, we were proud to once again step into the Lansing School District’s Business and Risk Management classroom to talk with students about careers in insurance and risk management.
This year, Rathbun Insurance was represented by CEO Ben Rathbun and Producer Darren Bardell. Together, they shared real-world insight into what a career in insurance looks like, the many paths available within the industry, and why insurance plays such a critical role in supporting individuals, businesses, and entire communities.
Returning to the classroom year after year is intentional. We believe students benefit most when professionals are willing to give their time, share their experiences, and speak honestly about both opportunities and challenges. For many students, insurance isn’t a career they’ve previously considered—until they hear firsthand how dynamic, people-focused, and impactful the work truly is.
From relationship-building and problem-solving to financial literacy and risk analysis, insurance offers transferable skills that apply across countless professions. By showing up consistently, we hope to broaden students’ understanding of what’s possible and help them envision futures they may not have previously seen for themselves.
We also want to encourage other local businesses to get involved. These partnerships matter—and the impact on young people can be long-lasting. Being there matters most—and for us, that includes being there in the classroom.
