Celebrating a Successful Summer: Congratulations to Rathbun Insurance Summer Intern Jessica Hua

Celebrating a Successful Summer: Congratulations to Rathbun Insurance Summer Intern Jessica Hua

As summer comes to a close, Rathbun Insurance is proud to congratulate Jessica Hua on the successful completion of her 2026 summer internship with our team!

Jessica joined us this May from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, and over the course of the summer, she truly immersed herself in our agency, our industry, and the Greater Lansing business community.

At Rathbun Insurance, we believe an internship should be about much more than observing from the sidelines. We want our interns to experience the many different pieces that make a business work, contribute to meaningful projects, build relationships with professionals across industries, and leave with a better understanding of the opportunities available to them. Jessica did exactly that.

Throughout her internship, Jessica worked alongside members of the Rathbun team and gained exposure to personal and commercial insurance, agency operations, sales, marketing, finance, customer service, data management, and business strategy. She also took ownership of projects that will continue to benefit our agency well beyond her time with us.

Her summer projects included:

  • Co-creating with Rayon Sanders (Rathbun's other summer intern) our 70th Anniversary slide presentation, which was featured throughout our anniversary celebration and will continue to run in our office throughout August.
  • Developing content and strategy for a 52-week Instagram project to support Rathbun's ongoing digital presence.
  • Establishing a social media metrics baseline to help us better measure and evaluate our digital marketing efforts.

An important part of Jessica's summer was also getting outside the walls of Rathbun Insurance.

Through the generosity of our carrier and community partners, Jessica had opportunities to experience different sides of the insurance industry and the broader business community. Her summer included experiences with Accident Fund, Auto-Owners Insurance, the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS), Plante Moran, the Lansing Economic Development Corporation, Capital Area Michigan Works, the Saginaw Street Corridor Improvement Authority, and the Cristo Rey Church Fiesta.

These experiences gave Jessica the opportunity to see careers and organizations of different sizes and specialties, learn from professionals across multiple disciplines, and better understand how insurance, finance, economic development, and business all intersect.

We are incredibly grateful to each of the organizations and professionals who opened their doors, shared their time and expertise, and helped us create a more meaningful internship experience. Workforce development is a shared responsibility, and partnerships like these allow students to see firsthand the variety of career paths and opportunities available right here in Michigan.

Most importantly, we want to thank Jessica.

Jessica brought curiosity, professionalism, creativity, and a willingness to jump in and contribute throughout her summer with us. The work she completed wasn't simply "intern work." She tackled real projects, asked thoughtful questions, offered a fresh perspective, and created resources our team can continue to build upon.

One of our goals at Rathbun is to give young people a genuine immersion into the workplace, an opportunity to do meaningful work, meet people who are willing to invest in them, explore different career possibilities, and begin building the skills and relationships they will carry forward.

Jessica embraced that opportunity all summer long.

Congratulations, Jessica, on a successful 2026 summer internship! Thank you for choosing to spend your summer learning and growing with Rathbun Insurance and, just as importantly, for everything you contributed to our team along the way.

We can't wait to see where you go next!
