Celebrating Community and Opportunity at the RDC THRIVE Event

Celebrating Community and Opportunity at the RDC THRIVE Event

Rathbun Insurance was honored to attend this year’s THRIVE event hosted by the Refugee Development Center. Representing our agency at the event were Ben Rathbun, CEO, and Laura Stoken, President, who joined community leaders, supporters, and advocates in celebrating the incredible impact the Refugee Development Center continues to make across mid-Michigan.

Founded in 2002, the Refugee Development Center (RDC) exists to help refugees and newcomers access the education, support systems, and opportunities needed to build successful lives in our community. Through youth programming, educational initiatives, workforce support, family services, and cultural connection, the RDC creates a welcoming environment where individuals and families can truly flourish.

This year’s THRIVE event also highlighted the organization’s exciting growth and future vision, including its new addition and expanded space designed to better serve the growing needs of the community. The expansion represents more than just additional square footage, it symbolizes continued investment in people, opportunity, and belonging. As Lansing and mid-Michigan continue to grow and evolve, organizations like the RDC are helping ensure our community remains welcoming, inclusive, and prepared to support families seeking safety, stability, and opportunity.

At Rathbun Insurance, we believe refugees make our community stronger. They bring resilience, entrepreneurship, culture, talent, and new perspectives that enrich our schools, businesses, neighborhoods, and local economy. Many families arriving in mid-Michigan are rebuilding their lives while navigating language barriers, unfamiliar systems, and significant transitions. The work of the RDC helps bridge those gaps with compassion, dignity, and practical support.

Supporting this mission is particularly meaningful to Rathbun Insurance because accessibility and community education remain central to who we are. Through partnerships, outreach efforts, and initiatives focused on underserved populations,  including Limited English Individuals (LEI), we understand how important it is for people to feel informed, supported, and connected to resources.

We are grateful for the leadership of the Refugee Development Center and proud to support an organization that is creating lasting impact in the lives of so many individuals and families throughout our region.

Thank you to the RDC team for an inspiring evening and for continuing to help our community thrive.

Because at Rathbun Insurance, Being There Matters Most.
