Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Today, Juneteenth is recognized as a celebration of freedom, resilience, culture, and the ongoing pursuit of equality. It is also an opportunity for communities to come together, learn from one another, and celebrate the diverse experiences that strengthen us all.

The 517 Juneteenth Weekend offers a variety of events for individuals and families to enjoy from June 18 through June 21:
Thursday, June 18 - Discovering Intersections: 8 Dimensions of Wellness Seminar
This community-centered seminar will explore the intersections of wellness across eight dimensions of life, featuring speakers, panel discussions, and conversations focused on equity, healing, and empowerment.
Friday, June 19 - Ice Cream Social
Presented by MSUFCU, this family-friendly event will bring the community together with 600 free ice cream samples, local vendors, inflatables, and activities for all ages.
Saturday, June 20 - 517 Juneteenth Festival in REO Town
The festival's signature event will feature live performances, local vendors, food, a kids zone, community activations, and thousands of attendees. This year's headlining performer is acclaimed Chicago artist Jamila Woods. Members of the Rathbun Insurance team, including Allegra Cagigas and Laura Stoken, will be staffing the Rathbun Insurance booth throughout the day. We invite everyone to stop by, say hello, and celebrate with us.
Sunday, June 21 - Father's Day Jazz Night
The weekend concludes with an elegant evening honoring fathers and father figures through live jazz performances featuring Horn and Holland.
