Rathbun Insurance was honored to attend the 41st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission of Mid-Michigan Day of Celebration, a signature community event that has become the place to be on Dr. King’s holiday because of the caliber of speakers, performers, and leaders it attracts each year.
This year, CEO Ben Rathbun, President Laura Stoken (joined by her children), and Producer Heather Kim represented Rathbun Insurance at the celebration—continuing our long-standing commitment to showing up for the communities we serve.
The Commission’s 2026 theme, “Let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream,” powerfully reflects the ongoing relevance of Dr. King’s vision and the work still required to build a more just and equitable society.
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission of Mid-Michigan has been advancing Dr. King’s legacy for more than four decades. What began as an annual celebration has grown into one of the largest and longest-running MLK Day events in the nation, with impact that extends far beyond a single day.
Their year-round initiatives include:
-
Scholarships for area middle and high school students
-
College tours that expose students to higher education opportunities
-
Community listening sessions that foster honest dialogue on critical issues
-
Signature events such as the MLK Art Showcase and the March on Lansing, commemorating the historic March on Washington
-
A newly launched newsletter to keep the community informed and engaged
These programs align deeply with Rathbun Insurance’s belief that Being There Matters Most—especially when it comes to investing in young people, supporting access to opportunity, and strengthening our community’s future.
We are grateful for the work of the Commission and for the opportunity to be part of a community that continues to honor Dr. King’s legacy through meaningful action, education, and service.
