Rathbun Insurance Celebrates the Launch of Lansing’s New Mural District

Today was an exciting day for Lansing as the Saginaw Street Corridor Improvement Authority (SSCIA) officially unveiled the Mural District, a new initiative celebrating local art, community connections, small businesses, and the continued revitalization of one of Lansing’s most important corridors.

Rathbun Insurance President and Partner Laura Stoken, who serves on the SSCIA Board of Directors, was proud to join fellow board members, community leaders, business owners, and supporters for this special milestone.

The celebration took place at Amy’s Catering, located at 600 W. Saginaw Street, where attendees gathered to unveil "Savor Every Moment," a beautiful new mural created by local artist Rhiannan Sibbald. The mural marks the one of many planned public art installations and beautification efforts that will bring new energy and creativity to the corridor.

“The Mural District gives us a way to bring the future of this corridor to life — visibly, creatively and in partnership with the people who make it special,” said Tiffany Dowling, SSCIA board chair and president and CEO of M3 Group. “This is about more than murals. It’s about creating a stronger sense of place, supporting local businesses and building connections that help our community thrive.”

With the tagline "Endless Connection," the Mural District is about much more than adding beautiful artwork to buildings. It is about creating a sense of place, encouraging investment, supporting local businesses, and giving residents and visitors new reasons to explore and experience Lansing.

The initiative has been years in the making, with the SSCIA Board and its partners working to develop a vision that celebrates the corridor's history while creating opportunities for its future.

And today's unveiling is just the beginning!

Over the coming months, the corridor will begin to see additional murals, creative fence installations, streetscape enhancements, colorful public art, and other beautification projects. Businesses will also have opportunities to participate by partnering with local artists and helping bring the district's creative identity to life.

Established in 2009, the SSCIA works to support economic development and improvements along West Saginaw Street, from Lansing's western city limit to Pennsylvania Avenue. The Mural District builds on that mission by using public art and placemaking to strengthen connections, inspire neighborhood pride, and encourage continued growth.

At Rathbun Insurance, our commitment to Lansing extends far beyond the insurance policies we provide. We believe in showing up, investing in our neighborhoods, supporting the people and organizations making a difference, and helping create a community where businesses and families can thrive.

Seeing this vision become a reality is a wonderful reminder of what can happen when people come together around a shared goal and stay committed to making it happen.

Congratulations to the SSCIA, the Mural District team, Rhiannan Sibbald, Amy's Catering, and everyone who helped make today possible. We cannot wait to watch this initiative grow and see more of Lansing's creativity on display!
