We are proud to share that our CEO, Ben Rathbun, was recently honored with the Walter J. Gdowski Award from The Rough Notes Company, Inc.
Walt Gdowski championed the idea that independent agents and brokers embody something bigger than business, values like generosity, commitment, and service. The work happening in local communities through giving, volunteering, mentoring, and supporting others creates real and lasting impact.
This recognition is especially significant because of what it represents, a legacy we deeply respect.
Rough Notes has played a meaningful role in shaping and supporting the independent agency system for generations. Through its publications, education, and storytelling, Rough Notes has consistently elevated the voices of independent agents, highlighting innovation, sharing best practices, and reinforcing the value that agents bring to their clients and communities. At a time when our industry can sometimes be misunderstood, Rough Notes continues to ensure that the real stories, the ones grounded in service, relationships, and impact, are seen and celebrated.
We are incredibly grateful to Rough Notes for this honor and for the partnership we’ve built over the past several years. Being featured on the cover last year was a proud moment for our team, and we’ve appreciated the opportunity to be part of the stories they share across the industry.
We would also like to extend our congratulations to our long-time friend Josh Morey of Ori-gen and The J. Morey Company, Inc., who was also honored by The Rough Notes Company, Inc. with this year’s Community Service Award. Josh shared that what makes this recognition especially meaningful is what it represents beyond the insurance industry, the donation tied to the award supports the Japanese American National Museum, helping preserve history and educating future generations. It’s a powerful reminder that storytelling, culture, and community matter, and that investing in education ensures these stories continue to be told.
