Rathbun Insurance Shines a Light on Recovery with Mid-Michigan Recovery Services

September was Recovery Month, a time to celebrate recovery, recognize the people and organizations providing support, and remind our community that recovery is possible.

Rathbun Insurance was proud to sponsor Mid-Michigan Recovery Services’ Second Annual Shine a Light Talent Show. Ben Rathbun, Laura Stoken and Cheryl Grimes had the honor of attending the event and joining an evening centered on hope, connection and the talents of people in recovery.

The Shine a Light Talent Show was a wonderful reminder that recovery is about so much more than overcoming difficult circumstances. The evening lifted up the creativity, courage and talents of those in recovery while also showing that even through some of life’s darkest moments, there can still be laughter, joy and connection.

Most importantly, there is always hope.

Mid-Michigan Recovery Services has deep roots in our community. The organization has served the tri-county area since 1960, beginning as the Alcoholism Information Center and later becoming the Tri-County Council on Alcoholism and Addictions.

In 1967, a Halfway House Council was formed to address the needs of community members experiencing chronic addiction and homelessness. Holden House was established to serve men, followed by Glass House to serve women. These residential programs provided safe shelter, life skills development and treatment for substance use disorders.

The Halfway House Council and Tri-County Council on Alcoholism eventually combined, and the organization operated for decades as the National Council on Alcoholism, Lansing Regional Area Inc.

In 2016, the organization became Mid-Michigan Recovery Services Inc., a name that more fully reflects its commitment to serving individuals impacted by substance use disorders involving alcohol and other drugs.

Today, Mid-Michigan Recovery Services works alongside numerous community organizations and recovery advocates while providing individualized, person-centered services designed to help people build healthier lives.

At the heart of its work is a simple but powerful belief: recovery is possible.

The Shine a Light Talent Show is one of several opportunities Rathbun Insurance has been proud to participate in throughout Recovery Month.

As a Recovery Friendly Workplace, we believe businesses can play an important role in reducing stigma, creating supportive environments and recognizing that people in recovery are valuable members of our workplaces and communities.

Events like Shine a Light give our community an opportunity to celebrate the people behind recovery stories, their talents, humor, resilience, relationships and accomplishments.

Thank you to Mid-Michigan Recovery Services for more than six decades of service to the Greater Lansing community and for creating an evening that gave people the opportunity to shine.

Rathbun Insurance was honored to sponsor and attend the Second Annual Shine a Light Talent Show, and we are proud to continue supporting efforts that remind our neighbors that help is available, recovery is worth celebrating, and hope is always present.

Being there matters most.
