What an incredible weekend!
The Rathbun Insurance team had an absolute blast at ScrapFest 2026, and we are so grateful to everyone who stopped by our booth to say hello. It was wonderful connecting with so many talented artists, community members, clients, and friends while celebrating one of Lansing's most unique and inspiring events.
As proud co-sponsors alongside Auto-Owners Insurance, we're honored to support an event that brings together art, sustainability, and community in such a meaningful way.
Every year, ScrapFest showcases the incredible creativity of local artists. In early May, approximately 35 artist teams receive one hour at Friedland Industries to collect up to 500 pounds of scrap metal to transform into original sculptures over the course of one month.
Artists compete in both:
- Large Piece Category (up to 500 lbs.)
- Small Piece Category (up to 250 lbs.)
The finished sculptures are displayed throughout the festival, where visitors can admire the craftsmanship, vote for their favorites, and participate in the silent auction.
What began as a sculpture competition has grown into a vibrant, repurpose-focused art festival featuring eco-art vendors, live music, family activities, delicious food, and countless opportunities to celebrate creativity while promoting sustainability.
One of the things we love most about ScrapFest is its commitment to supporting both artists and the community.
Proceeds from the sculpture auction are distributed to make a lasting impact:
- 70% goes directly to the artists
- 20% helps fund future ScrapFest events
- 10% benefits this year's charitable partner, Mid-Michigan Recovery Services
It's a wonderful example of how art can strengthen an entire community.

We're especially excited to congratulate all of this year's award winners in the Large Piece, Small Piece, and People's Choice categories. Your talent and dedication made this year's festival unforgettable.
