At Rathbun Insurance, our monthly DEI conversations are an important part of how we continue to grow as a team—both professionally and personally. These conversations challenge us to broaden our perspectives, deepen our understanding of the communities we serve, and show up more thoughtfully for one another and our clients.
This past Friday, we took that commitment a step further by taking our DEI conversation on the road to the Greater Lansing Food Bank.
Since 1981, the Greater Lansing Food Bank (GLFB) has led mid-Michigan’s fight against hunger, working to ensure that families and neighbors have access to the nutritious food they need to support their health and well-being. Their reach spans a 4,000-square-mile, seven-county service area, including Clare, Clinton, Eaton, Gratiot, Ingham, Isabella, and Shiawassee counties; serving thousands of individuals and families across our region.
During our visit, our team had the opportunity to tour GLFB’s facilities and see firsthand how food is collected, sorted, stored, and prepared for distribution. Their recently built, state-of-the-art facility reflects not only efficiency and scale, but also a deep commitment to food safety and dignity for those they serve.
We were also fortunate to spend time learning from Kelly Miller, Chief Development Officer, and Sarah Clinkscales, Special Gifts Advisor. They shared powerful insights into the populations GLFB serves, the growing need within our own community, and the many ways individuals and organizations can get involved.
What stood out most was the reminder that while we operate as a team at Rathbun Insurance, we are also part of a broader community; one where food insecurity is a very real challenge for many of our neighbors. Experiences like this help shape how we think, how we listen, and how we serve. It’s a lens that matters, especially when we sit across from clients whose life circumstances may be different from our own.
There is something incredibly powerful about what happens when people come together with a shared purpose. The Greater Lansing Food Bank is a testament to that—bringing together volunteers, donors, partners, and advocates to make a meaningful impact every single day.
We are grateful to the GLFB team for hosting us, for educating us, and for the critical work they do in our community.
Because at Rathbun Insurance, Being There Matters Most—and that extends far beyond insurance.
