Ben joined The Rathbun Agency as a business and personal insurance agent in 2014 after graduating from Michigan State University with a degree in finance. He also holds a Master’s in Business Administration in Risk Management & Insurance from Olivet College. Ben became a partner at the agency in 2019 and took over the role of Chief Executive Officer in 2021. He leads the third generation of Rathbun’s at the helm of the family agency his grandfathers two brothers founded in 1956.
He holds the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Authority on Workers Compensation (CAWC), Accredited Adviser of Insurance (AAI), Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) and Cyber Professional Liability Practitioner (CPLP) designations. In 2023, Ben was named to the RISE Professionals 35 Under 35 List in the insurance industry and a Rising Star 2023 from Insurance Business America. Ben received the Young Agent of the Year Award from the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America in 2020 and the Dan Fulwider Award for Community Involvement from the association in 2022. In 2021, he received the Young Charger award from the Michigan Association of Insurance Agents. In September 2016, he received the 10 Over the Next Ten award from the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Ben l is fueled with a passion for community service. He is a Community Board Member and former Support Group Facilitator at Ele’s Place, a healing center for grieving children. Ben is the Membership Chair of Lansing Rotary and an active member of the National African American Insurance Association of Detroit/Michigan. Ben is an active participant in the Insurance BFF Mentorship program within Lansing School District’s and Wilson Talent Center’s insurance and risk management program, where each high school student is paired one-on-one with an insurance professional for a full semester long mentorship. He serves on the board of Insuring MI Future, which facilitates and promotes opportunities for a diverse network of students to pursue a career in insurance.
Ben is the founder of the For Good Foundation. He serves the Michigan Association of Insurance Agents as a Past Chair of the Young Agents Council. Ben claims to make the best bruschetta, enjoys playing his baby grand piano and spends his most cherished time with his wife, Lillian.
