At Rathbun Insurance, we know that building strong teams isn’t just about skill—it’s also about understanding. That’s why we took some time during this morning’s monthly staff meeting to participate in a fun, small group activity designed to help us better understand ourselves and each other in the workplace.
Since adopting the DiSC profile methodology ahead of our office renovation last November, we've used it as a tool to build deeper connections—especially while we were working remotely. Even now, in our newly renovated space, we’ve continued that commitment to meaningful collaboration.
Today’s activity, called “The Ideal Teamwork Machine,” invited staff to work in DiSC-diverse small groups and design a metaphorical machine that represents how we function best as a team. It was creative, energizing, and gave us all a fresh lens on how each DiSC style—Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness—plays a critical role in how we serve each other and our clients.
Why does this matter?
Understanding the unique strengths and communication preferences of each team member helps us:
Build stronger working relationships
Reduce miscommunication and conflict
Improve the way we deliver for our clients
Play to each other’s strengths
And yes, we had a little fun along the way.

Check out just a few of the creative “machines” our teams dreamed up:
The Collaboration Cruiser – fueled by trust, driven by open communication
The Progress Machine – with each DiSC style powering a critical component of momentum
The Teamwork Trolley – where every role has a seat, and each gear moves us forward together
Activities like this one remind us that every personality brings value—and when we align those strengths, we don’t just work better, we are better. For each other. And for our clients.
Because at Rathbun Insurance, Being There Matters Most.
